The only downside to a super durable gel manicure? They’re so strong, they can be hard to remove! Not to worry, though. Nail Dips is just as easy to take off as it is to put on.
Time for this gel manicure to come off!
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Nail file
- Paper towels
- Pure acetone
- 1 large glass dish
- 1-2 smaller glass bowls
The first thing you need to do is remove all the shine from your nails. To do so, file the entire surface of your nails. You want to be pretty thorough – the better you do at this step, the less time it will take to completely remove your gel powder manicure.
PREPARE YOUR ACETONE SOAK
The easiest way to remove a gel polish manicure to soak your nails in acetone. But if you use just a bowl filled with plain old, cold acetone…you might find yourself soaking for quite a while. I’ve found that this method is much more effective! I only need to soak my nails for about 10 minutes to completely remove my manicure.
First, you want to choose a large glass dish. It needs to be big enough to set your soaking bowls in it. Then, you need to fill it with about a half an inch of hot water. The water should be hot, but not boiling. I’ll usually microwave my water for about 2 minutes to heat it up.
Next, place your soaking dishes into the hot water. You can use two smaller dishes (one for each hand) or one big enough to soak all your fingernails at once. In each of your soaking dishes, fold a paper towel into the bottom. Then, fill the dishes with just enough acetone to cover all your nails.
TIME TO SOAK
Finally, it’s time to soak your nails. Dip your hands into the soaking dishes – the hot water below should have the acetone at a comfortably warm temperature. While you’re soaking, rub your nails on the paper towel to speed up the process.
You should only need to soak for about 10-15 minute before you notice the polish is completely gone!
And that’s it! Pretty easy, right?
Some Extra Tips:
- The smell of acetone can be pretty overwhelming. To help reduce the odor, lay a towel over your hands and bowl to keep the smell inside.
- You can also open some windows and run a fan to help with the acetone smell.
- If you find that there is still some residue on your nails after soaking, no worries. You can easily file off whatever remains.
